The item is in good condition, with beautiful mounting and calligraphy. This hanging scroll is "Shinobi (Endurance)" by Issei Yamauchi. Issei Yamauchi was born on October 4, 1929, in Obara Village, Nishikamo District, Aichi Prefecture. He is a washi (Japanese paper) craft artist. He studied under Tatsukichi Fujii, who popularized washi crafts in Obara Village after the war. Yamauchi is a representative washi craft artist of Obara craft paper and is considered a leading figure in Obara washi crafts. He is the current honorary chairman of the Japan Craft Association, and professional baseball player Soma Yamauchi is a relative. He became an honorary citizen of the former Obara Village in 2004 and was nominated as an honorary citizen of Toyota City in December 2017. At first glance, one is surprised by the mysterious style, which looks as if the characters were written during the process of making washi. I think it's an amazing technique to freely draw pictures and make characters appear while making washi. Soft blue-toned washi is used in the background, and pale brown and white lines run across it as if flowing. Those lines are not ink, but have a natural expression like traces drawn by the wind, and they seem to gently envelop the viewer's heart.
