Postcard set from "Taiyoshi Hyakuban," a registered tangible cultural property restaurant in Tobita, Nishinari-ku, Osaka. Rare and not for sale. Taiyoshi Hyakuban is a registered tangible cultural property that preserves the building constructed as a pleasure quarter from the end of the Taisho era to the beginning of the Showa era. I've been a regular at this udon-suki restaurant for over 30 years, and I often took foreign guests there, who were always fascinated. Each room has a unique design, evoking the Taisho Roman aesthetic unique to pleasure quarter architecture. However, the preservation condition was very poor, with peeling wallpaper and torn sliding doors, and I always thought it should be better maintained. In that context, a large-scale preservation and restoration project for the aging building was launched through crowdfunding, and it was renovated in February 2022.
