I've loved antiques since junior high school. Back then, I was a strange boy who would look at things like Émile Gallé and Kakiemon, which weren't so well-known, and fantasize in shops about which one I'd buy. It was probably due to the influence of my grandfather, who ran an antique shop. Because of that, I've collected various items over the years. Even though they're antiques, they're not necessarily things of artistic value or bestsellers. They're things I liked after seeing them with my own eyes, so my collection is probably a bit unusual, not quite fitting the definition of "antique." Also, due to studying abroad and work, I've lived overseas (in the UK and the US) and have visited a considerable number of countries, including during those periods. Especially while living in London, I went to antique markets almost every week (Portobello, Camden, New Caledonian, etc.) and browsed various miscellaneous goods. Traveling abroad is still one of my hobbies. I also collected foreign books by visiting used bookstores in various countries. Art, design, and architecture are my main interests. However, since the advent of online shopping like Amazon, I can buy them while in Japan, so I rarely have to pack heavy art books into a trunk and pay extra fees to bring them back from a long journey. But, as they say, encounters with people, books, and objects are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, and there's a unique excitement in that. Through Mercari, although indirectly, I find it interesting that such encounters are happening, as a new form of exchange. I bought an ultimate antique, an old folk house, about 35 years ago and have been steadily renovating it. I think it was rare at the time, as it was before the boom of old folk houses and townhouses. I sold it last year and am using Mercari to gradually dispose of the vast collection I had there. And, it's also about "danshari" (decluttering). I try to ship items as quickly as possible. I may consider discounts depending on the item, but sometimes people negotiate at outrageous prices. If I judge that a comment lacks common sense or good judgment, I will promptly block the user. I don't have much experience with Mercari yet, but thank you all in advance.
