This is one of the teacups my mother collected, a piece by the second generation Haruji Kato (Intangible Cultural Property of Aichi Prefecture), a Seto potter. A willow swaying in the wind is drawn with simple lines. The willow's understated flexibility is said to connect with the humble and flexible spirit of the tea ceremony. Also, I've heard that the willow is a lucky motif because it survives the winter and sprouts in the spring. * There is some wear around the foot, but no noticeable scratches.
