This is a calligraphy by the former head priest of Nanzen-ji Temple, Roshi Sotetsu Katsuhei. It is not particularly tied to a specific season, so it can be used year-round. The signature reads "Nanzen Sotetsu," and the accompanying box has the inscription "Wash away the dust in the human heart" (洗尽人間胸裏塵) on the inside of the lid, along with a seal. Born in Shimane Prefecture. Daikei Sotetsu. His room name was Nankoshitsu. In 1951, he entered the Nanzen-ji Temple training hall and studied under Zenkei Shibayama, succeeding his teachings. He was a teacher at the Nanzen-ji Temple training hall and the head priest of the Nanzen-ji Temple sect. Born in 1922, he passed away in 1983 at the age of 61.
