Its characteristic feature is the skillful design created by the lathe, using vivid colors. The evenly spaced patterns of red, yellow, and purple give a modern impression within the tradition. The head looks like it's wearing a beret, and the large, round face compared to the body, with its simple and lovely expression, is also one of its popular features. ◎Craftsperson: Harumi Inoue Born on March 1, 1955, as the eldest daughter of woodturners Shiro Inoue and Yukiko in Nishiaizu Town, Yama District, Fukushima Prefecture. In 1959, the family moved to Daidoda, Kitakata City, and her parents were engaged in the production of new-style kokeshi dolls. In the autumn of 1969, her parents became disciples of Shunji Sato of Atsushio and began to produce traditional kokeshi dolls.
