Tatsuzo Shimaoka - Blue Glaze Flower Vase Size: Approximately 5.2 cm mouth diameter, 9.6 cm body diameter x 16.7 cm height Body only, no other accessories * A flower vase with a subdued turquoise blue, reminiscent of Western aesthetics. * While Tatsuzo Shimaoka is known for "Jomon Zogan" (cord-marked inlay), this is a rare piece from the early period of the artist's work. * The artist's signature is "T.S," which seems to have been used only during a limited period in the Showa era or on a select few works. * The artist's works, while influenced by Shoji Hamada, are consistently refined, solid, and meticulously crafted. This is evident in this piece, including the glaze extending to the inside of the foot. * The turquoise blue rests on a dark brown clay body, creating a calm effect, and I believe the vessel will not be overly conspicuous, allowing the flowers to stand out. * I think it's best to appreciate the work itself, rather than being preoccupied with the artist's name. Tatsuzo Shimaoka (1919-2007) was a disciple of Shoji Hamada, established the Jomon Zogan technique, and was designated a Living National Treasure, a master of Mashiko.
